ECHANGE SCOLAIRE

Dans le cadre de l’ échange scolaire avec des écoles européennes,18 élèves avec 4 professeurs venus du Collège Roger Carcassonne de Provence ont été accueillis par 18 élèves de notre école,leurs familles et leurs professeurs,Mesdames Ioannidou et Balafouti du 14 au 21 février 2012.

Pendant leur séjour en Grèce,les élèves Français ,leurs profs ainsi que leurs correspndants ont eu l’ occasion de visiter le Nouveau Musée de l’ Acropole,le site archéologique de Delphes et de Mycènes,de flâner dans les ruelles pittoresques d’ Arahova,de Plaka,de Nauplie,de goûter aux spécialités traditionnelles grecques et de s’ amuser au bal de notre école.

A travers cette expérience unique,de nouvelles amitiés se sont créées et des futurs citoyens de l’ Europe et du monde entier se sont révelés.

Enfin,on a renouvelé notre rendez-vous pour la fin du mois de juin où les élèves Grecs vont profiter des beautés provençales.

CONCOURS:»JE DIS NON…OU JE DIS OUI»

Les élèves de FR 161 et leur professeur Lily Grammatika ont participé au concours «Je dis non…ou je dis oui» organisé par la Comission de l’ Europe de l’Ouest de la Fédération Internationale des Professeurs de français sous la tutelle du Ministère de l’Education.

Fénia Vidali, Stella Dadarou , Michel Zois, Nicolas Papantonopoulos , Jason Rallakis, Julie Charalampaki et Stelios Christoforou ont réalisé une vidéo inspirée par le programme LIFESKILLS enseigné en 6^e.  Les acteurs en herbe ont créé trois sketchs ayant comme sujet L’ESPRIT D’ EQUIPE, LA MALBOUFFE ET LA VIOLENCE. Le tournage a eu lieu aux locaux de l’école à l’aide de Mme C. Panagopoulou.

La vidéo a été choisie par les juges pour représenter les écoles primaires grecques au niveau international. Les élèves vont recevoir leurs prix et leurs attestations pour cette réussite qui nous a tous rendu fiers.

Η πρωθιέρεια Ινώ Μενεγάκη επισκέπτεται τους μαθητές των γαλλικών

Ε.Τ.: Καλωσορίσατε στην τάξη μας. Τα παιδιά θέλουν να σας γνωρίσουν καλύτερα και έχουν πολλές ερωτήσεις να σας κάνουν.

Ι.Μ.: Χαίρομαι που βρίσκομαι εδώ, ανάμεσα σε μαθητές. Είμαι στη διάθεσή τους.

Νικολία:  Είστε  η πρωθιέρεια στην Τελετή Αφής της Ολυμπιακής Φλόγας. Μπορείτε να μας περιγράψετε την τελετή αυτή;

Ι.Μ.: Βεβαίως. Η τελετή αυτή είναι μία από τις τρείς σημαντικές τελετές των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων. Οι άλλες δύο είναι οι τελετές Έναρξης και Λήξης. Έγινε παράδοση στους σύγχρονους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες . Η ιδέα για την αναβίωση των Ο.Α. ανήκει στον Pierre de Coubertin, o οποίος κατάφερε να δει  το όνειρό του να γίνεται πραγματικότητα ύστερα από επίμονες προσπάθειες.

Η τελετή της Αφής λαμβάνει χώρα στην Αρχαία Ολυμπία, όπου γίνονταν  οι Ο.Α. στην αρχαιότητα , και είναι μια αναφορά στην Ελλάδα , ως γενέτειρά τους. Η τελετή έχει ως εξής: από το ιερό της Ήρας εμφανίζονται οι ιέρειες ,μαζί με την πρωθιέρεια, και παίρνουν θέση σε ένα σημείο όπου γίνεται η αφή της Φλόγας , με τη βοήθεια του ήλιου και ενός ειδικού κατόπτρου . Η πρωθιέρεια μάλιστα κάνει επίκληση στο θεό Απόλλωνα και τον παρακαλεί να στείλει τις ακτίνες του και ν’ανάψει την ιερή δάδα. Ύστερα η Φλόγα μεταφέρεται στο αγγείο της ιέρειας Εστιάδας. Η χορογραφία που εκτελούν οι ιέρειες ,είναι κάθε φορά διαφορετική ,και εμπνευσμένη από τις εικόνες των αγγείων, τα αθλήματα κτλ.  Στη συνέχεια εμφανίζεται ο πρώτος λαμπαδηδρόμος , στον οποίο η πρωθιέρεια μεταφέρει τη Φλόγα .Εκείνος ξεκινάει μια διαδρομή κατά την οποία ,η Φλόγα μεταφέρεται από χέρι σε χέρι και μετά από μια πορεία πολλών χιλιομέτρων, καταλήγει στο στάδιο που φιλοξενεί τους ΟΑ . Είναι ένα μήνυμα ειρήνης προς όλους τους λαούς. Ας μην ξεχνάμε εξάλλου πως, στην αρχαιότητα, κατά τη διάρκεια των Ο.Α. σταματούσε κάθε εχθροπραξία. Αυτό τουλάχιστον εικάζεται ,σύμφωνα με τη μαρτυρία του Παυσανία ,ο οποίος στο έργο του «Ελλάδος Περιήγησις» στα Ηλειακά Α ,αναφέρεται στο δίσκο του Ιφίτου, όπου αναγράφεται η «Ιερή Εκεχειρία».

Πέμη: Πώς νιώθετε την ώρα της Αφής της Φλόγας;

Ι.Μ.: Νιώθω συγκίνηση και δέος. Είναι μεγάλη τιμή να έχει κανείς αυτό το ρόλο. Επίσης νιώθω και λίγο άγχος, σε περίπτωση συννεφιάς, μήπως δεν ανάψει η Φλόγα. Υπάρχει πρόβλεψη  βέβαια, αν συμβεί κάτι τέτοιο.

Κελλη:  Ποια είναι ακριβώς η σημασία του στοιχείου της φωτιάς;

Ι.Μ.: Η φωτιά είναι σύμβολο ανάπτυξης και προόδου. Ενώνει  τους ανθρώπους. Στην Ολυμπία υπήρχε το «Άσβεστο Πυρ» , η φωτιά που καιγόταν συνεχώς, στο βωμό της θεάς Εστίας ,στο Πρυτανείο, το χώρο δηλαδή που  φιλοξενούσε τις πανηγυρικές συνεστιάσεις προς τιμή των νικητών και των επισήμων, κατά τις μέρες των Ολυμπ.Αγώνων.

Αλέξανδρος: Οι Ο.Α. του Λονδίνου είναι σε λίγους μήνες. Δεν είναι μια καλή ευκαιρία να ξαναθυμίσουμε στον υπόλοιπο κόσμο, τη χώρα όπου γεννήθηκαν  οι Ο.Α. αλλά και αξίες και ιδέες, πανανθρώπινες και αιώνιες, από ένα λαμπρό πολιτισμό  που υπήρξε κάποτε;

Ι.Μ.: Είναι αλήθεια  πως η Ελλάδα περνάει δύσκολες ώρες και χρειάζεται να στραφούμε και πάλι στις αξίες των προγόνων μας ,για να εμπνευστούμε από αυτές. Η προβολή της χώρας μας είναι απαραίτητη. Η τελετή της Αφής της Φλόγας  θα λάβει χώρα στις 10 Μαΐου και θα προβληθεί από τα διεθνή ΜΜΕ. Επίσης, έχει γίνει πρόβλεψη για προβολή της χώρας μας με διάφορες εκδηλώσεις.

Μαριλένα: Οι  Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες των νέων είναι νέος θεσμός;

Ι.Μ. : Ακριβώς. Έλαβαν  χώρα για πρώτη φορά στη Σιγκαπούρη το 2010.Είναι γεγονός ότι γίνεται μια προσπάθεια να έρθουν κοντά στον αθλητισμό οι νεαρότερες ηλικίες ,δηλαδή οι νέοι από 14 έως 18.

Θοδωρής:  Ν’ αλλάξουμε θέμα; Είστε ηθοποιός. Έχετε ασχοληθεί με την τηλεόραση;

Ι.Μ.: Όχι. Δεν έχω παίξει σε κάποια σειρά. Δανείζω όμως  τη φωνή μου. Παίρνω μέρος σε μεταγλωττίσεις. Είναι μια ενδιαφέρουσα διαδικασία που μου αρέσει πολύ.

Κλαίρη: Δεν είναι δύσκολο για τον ηθοποιό αυτό αφού πρέπει να χρησιμοποιεί μόνο τη φωνή του; Εννοώ ότι λείπει η κίνηση.

Ι.Μ.: Ο ηθοποιός χρησιμοποιεί όλο του το είναι για να εκφραστεί: το σώμα του, τη φωνή του, την ψυχή του την ίδια. Είναι θέμα εκπαίδευσης.

Πάολα: Σε ποια σχολή έχετε κάνει σπουδές;

Ι.Μ.: Έχω τελειώσει τη Σχολή του Εθνικού Θεάτρου το 1993. Εχω ασχοληθεί κυρίως με το Αρχαίο Δράμα (τραγωδία και κωμωδία). Έχω παίξει στην Υψιπύλη, την Ορέστεια ,τον Ιωνα ,τον Ιππόλυτο κλπ. Εσείς βλέπετε θέατρο; Σας αρέσει;

Μαριλένα: Ναι .Εγώ έχω πάει και στην Επίδαυρο. Μου αρέσει να παρακολουθώ θεατρικές παραστάσεις.

Ε.Τ.: Ακούμε συχνά στις μέρες μας το παράπονο ότι υπάρχει έλλειψη ποιότητας στο θέαμα.

Ποια η γνώμη σας πάνω σ’ αυτό;

Δημήτρης: Εγώ πιστεύω πως  η τηλεόραση για παράδειγμα έχει αρκετές εκπομπές που είναι εύπεπτες όπως κάποια σήριαλ . Εμένα αυτά με αφήνουν αδιάφορο.

Νικολία: Εγώ θεωρώ ποιοτικό το θέαμα που μου αφήνει κάτι μετά, έναν προβληματισμό ένα μήνυμα.

Ι.Μ.: Ωραία. Πάντως όμορφα πράγματα γίνονται παντού. Απλά πρέπει κανείς να παίρνει πληροφορίες για το θέαμα που πρόκειται να δει και να εξασκεί την  κρίση του πάνω σ’ αυτό που βλέπει.

Νάσος: Τι είναι αυτό που σας συναρπάζει τόσο στο θέατρο;

Ι.Μ.: Ο ηθοποιός στο θέατρο δημιουργεί μία πραγματικότητα, ζωντανεύει ένα κείμενο και παρασύρει και το θεατή σε αυτή την πραγματικότητα. Έχω την αίσθηση ότι  την προσωπικότητά του  , στο θέατρο ,ο ηθοποιός ,μπορεί να την ορίσει όχι όμως και στην τηλεόραση. Εκεί  παίζει ρόλο η εικόνα και αυτή δεν μπορείς να την ορίσεις εύκολα.

Κλαίρη: Τι θα συμβουλεύατε τα νέα παιδιά που θα ήθελαν να ασχοληθούν με την υποκριτική;

Ι.Μ.: Πρέπει κανείς να είναι σίγουρος ότι αγαπάει πραγματικά την τέχνη αυτή γιατί τα πράγματα δεν είναι καθόλου εύκολα. Το επάγγελμα αυτό δε σε συντηρεί σωστά. Το ταλέντο δεν φτάνει. Χρειάζεται και καλλιέργεια. Πάντως οι κρατικές σχολές είναι δύο: οι σχολές του Εθνικού Θεάτρου και του Κρατικού Θεάτρου Βορείου Ελλάδος. Δέχονται εκατοντάδες υποψήφιους κάθε χρόνο και αφού τους υποβάλλουν σε εξετάσεις καταλήγουν σε 15 περίπου άτομα. Το όριο ηλικίας είναι τα 25 χρόνια(αν δεν έχει αλλάξει κάτι). Εύχομαι πραγματικά καλή τύχη σε όποιον το αποφασίσει.

19η ΔΙΕΘΝΗΣ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΔΑ ΦΙΛΟΣΟΦΙΑΣ ΒΙΕΝΝΗ 2011 (26-29 Μαΐου 2011)

Τα Εκπαιδευτήρια Δούκα συμμετείχαν για πέμπτη χρονιά στη Διεθνή Ολυμπιάδα Φιλοσοφίας, η οποία φέτος διεξήχθη στη Βιέννη της Αυστρίας από 26 έως 29 Μαΐου. Το σχολείο μας εκπροσωπήθηκε από την μαθήτρια Ελένη Ισμαήλου και τον καθηγητή Γιάννη Σταματέλλο. Στη φετινή διοργάνωση  συμμετείχαν 31 χώρες, η μεγαλύτερη συμμετοχή από κάθε προηγούμενη ολυμπιάδα. Η φετινή συμμετοχή της Ελλάδος στέφθηκε με μεγάλη επιτυχία αφού της απονεμήθηκε, για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της, το ένα από τα τρία χάλκινα μετάλλια (στον μαθητή Ορφέα Ζορμπαλά) ενώ η Ελένη Ισμαήλου κατέλαβε υψηλή θέση στην τελική κατάταξη. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι ο μέσος όρος της Ελλάδος (7.1 / 10) κατέταξε τη χώρα μας στην πρώτη δεκάδα.

Η Διεθνής Ολυμπιάδα Φιλοσοφίας της Βιέννης υπήρξε μια γόνιμη και δημιουργική εμπειρία τόσο για τους συμμετέχοντες μαθητές όσο και για τους καθηγητές των αποστολών. Πέραν του διαγωνισμού στο φιλοσοφικό δοκίμιο, οι μαθητές συμμετείχαν σε συζητήσεις και ομάδες εργασίες με θέμα την «δύναμη της φιλοσοφίας». Ενδιαφέρουσες ομιλίες από καθηγητές του Πανεπιστημίου της Βιέννης και άλλα ακαδημαϊκά ινστιτούτα της Αυστρίας ενέπνευσαν μαθητές και καθηγητές και άνοιξαν έναν δημιουργικό διάλογο για το ρόλο της φιλοσοφίας στη πολιτική, τη ψυχολογία και την επικοινωνία.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι η φετινή επιτυχία της Ελλάδος έχει τις ρίζες της πριν από έξι χρόνια, στην πρώτη επίσημη συμμετοχή της χώρας μας στο θεσμό, ύστερα από πρωτοβουλία των Εκπαιδευτήριων Δούκα, στην 14η Διεθνή Ολυμπιάδα Φιλοσοφίας στη Κοζέντσα της Ιταλίας το 2006. Η πρωτοπορία αυτή του σχολείο μας έκανε γνωστό το θεσμό της φιλοσοφικής ολυμπιάδας στη χώρα μας, με αποκορύφωμα την περσινή διοργάνωση του διαγωνισμού στην Αθήνα από το Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών και το Κέντρο Ελληνικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Harvard. Στο μέλλον το Υπουργείο Παιδείας εξετάζει το ενδεχόμενο διοργάνωσης πανελλήνιου διαγωνισμού φιλοσοφίας.

19th Internation Philosophy Olympiad (Vienna 2011)

Recently, I had the opportunity to be a participant in the International Philosophy Olympiad in Vienna and represent my country, Greece.  It was a remarkable experience both intellectually and culturally. I had the chance to delve deeper in life and pursue my genuine interest in philosophy as well as my passion for travelling. I met many interesting people from the four corners of the globe, each one of them having something different to offer, something unique.

I participated in various activities and workshops while all of us had to take part in a lecture on a crucial philosophical issue. I had the chance to collaborate with others students, share our opinions and discuss in a philosophical manner. I also had the unique experience of a university-style seminar among students. However, the most challenging activity of the trip was the essay competition. We were given four topics of a philosophical nature and had to choose and write an essay on one of them. The task was highly demanding, but I was quite satisfied with the final outcome.

At the onset of this trip, I must admit I was excited but at the same time apprehensive about my attendance at the IPO and my role in this competition. But when I was there, miraculously, all these “fears” disappeared. I met students of my own age from all around the world and shared experiences, ideas and beliefs. Everybody was friendly and polite, despite our cultural differences. I made new friends and visited several places such as the City Hall of Vienna where we spent our first night and the Vienna University, where the awards were given to the participants.

I must say that this trip was one of the most rewarding and enlightening experiences that have marked my life. On the way back, I had several flashbacks to these magic days, to these personalities which are potentially ready to bring many changes to our world. In Vienna, I discovered a different world, a world that helped me discover some “pieces” of myself. I truly wonder: was it really an end or a new beginning?

In conclusion, I would like to thank deeply, from my heart, Mr. Stamatellos who made it all possible.  Without his help, I would not have been there, I would not have known philosophy to such depths, I would not have embraced the cultural diversity that surrounds us.

REFLECTIONS ON Pre-IB

The real story

 I still remember the first day I walked in my very first pre-IB lesson, with my brand new notebook.  I felt ready to conquer Economics. The excitement showed and I was smiling throughout the lesson.  This is one of the few times in my life that I felt I had done something I honestly liked.  When we bought our book, I realized that it would obviously be hard but it would be worth it, at least for me.  Pressure never got in my way.  My family has always been supporting me as well as my new professors.  I feel lucky and at the same time blessed that I never had anyone making choices for me and this year I had to make too many choices and choose new paths.  Some of these choices included choosing an IGCSE elective and deciding whether to attend IB or not.

 Right now, I am sitting at a desk and it’s almost the end of the school year. I must admit that I have learnt an awful lot. I feel I have improved and I certainly don’t regret my choices.  I’ve learnt that apart from accepting knowledge, you must learn to question it and finally form your own opinion on a topic.  I got to know myself better and I found parts of me that otherwise might have been neglected.  The most important notion that has become my motto is that whenever things go blur and you don’t have a crystal clear picture, simply have faith in yourself and you will figure everything out.  I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO STARTING IB!

To I-Be or not to I-Be

 At the end of third year Gymnasium, I was really unsure about my educational prospects.  At that time my parents recommended joining the IB.  After considering it for a while, I decided that joining the program could be very helpful for my future.  I did know that universities abroad are better and more organized than the Greek universities and I also knew that joining the IB would allow me to study abroad.  The only problem was that I didn’t know anything about the program.  Therefore I decided to join the Pre-IB program in order to learn more things about the IB. 

In the beginning I found Pre-IB difficult because it was really different from Greek school.  However, a few weeks later, I got used to it and started enjoying the courses.  All the teachers made the lessons interesting and I truly enjoyed speaking and learning in a foreign language.  Now that the year is almost over, I realize that all my questions about IB have been answered and I no longer have a dilemma.  My opinion is that Pre-IB has been really helpful.

Reflections

 Joining Pre-IB was not a really big step for me.  Early in my 3^r year high school, I had decided that I would join the program because I believed that it would help me decide if I should join the IB program the following year. 

 With great pleasure I discovered that it was not what I had expected but even better.  From the first day we all realized that Pre-IB was going to be a completely different experience; different schedules, different type of homework, different mentality.  As for my classes, from the first moment I loved English and Art and after the first two months I started liking Maths too.  The workload was not a real issue because we didn’t have so much homework from Lyceum. However there were times that I had a lot of Math exercises and Art projects.  For this particular reason, I am a little worried about selecting Art higher level in IB as one of my classes next year because I do not know if I am able to manage it. 

 Being almost at the end of this school year, I have realized that this program has helped me a lot.  It has made me a lot more mature, taught me how to manage my time more effectively and broadened my horizons.  And of course I now have a very clear picture of  what IB is all about.  

 However, during this really great and enjoyable year, apart from Pre-IB, I’ve also appreciated Lyceum too and honestly speaking, I feel lost as I am still unable to choose.  This is where Pre-IB failed…

Colorful Diversity

 My first encounter with Pre-IB was in September 2010.  I joined the Pre-IB because I was in the middle of a huge dilemma whether to attend IB the following year or not.  And that’s how it all started. 

At first Pre-IB seemed hostile to me because all of my friends were in Greek school.  What kept me going thouth was that I wanted to have a taste of IB and the fact that it was something new and possibly interesting. 

In the beginning it was hard for me to adapt as Pre-IB had another method of learning.  It was much more organized and we were asked to be more creative and critical. This seemed “out of the blue” for me since Greek school is based on learning by heart and we are never asked to express our opinions. We are asked to accept a fixed opinion which we are to believe and support.  As time passed, I started to get “tuned in” with IB and by February, I was convinced that this program is tailored to my needs.  This is definitely the path that I will follow in the future. 

Today I feel overwhelmingly proud of my choice to attend Pre-IB.  It helped me realize where I belong.

Trapped

 Yes, I actually feel trapped in the Pre-IB.  I cannot stand it much longer… Ha, ha, gotcha!  This program is cool.  As long as the sun is shining, I’m in!

 Well, what I mean is that it may have seemed tiring and boring at first, it turned out to be interesting and even enjoyable.  It’s interesting enough to keep us going.  Of course it’s incredibly helpful for the IB next year.  After all, that’s why I joined it. 

They don’t work us hard.  Everybody understands that we’ve also got other things to do than study for Pre-IB only.  Teachers are understanding and comforting.  They’re also kinda fun to be around. 

 Talking about its good points, I’ve learned many things about stuff I had no idea about before.  I definitely learned more things than Greek high school. 

 This is all I gotta say to ya people who skipped Pre-IB!!!

Windsurfing is a surface water sport that combines elements of surfing and sailing. Windsurf boards can tack like a sail boat usually two to four meters long. We need a mast, a wishbone, a boom and sail .You can buy or hire the equipment. Lessons can be taken with a windsurfing teacher or a school, which exist in reasonable numbers in most countries. With coaching and favorable conditions, the basic skills of sailing, steering, and turning can be learned within a few days. You can windsurf in most beaches (Schinias , Varkiza ) in Athens and on most islands. Windsurfing is a summer extreme sport that means that you can do throughout the summer .  KATERINA STAI

Τeenagers and culture

These are the results of a survey conducted among students from the IGCSE department concerning the connection between teenagers and culture.

According to the survey, in relation to attending theatrical performances the majority of the girls questioned showed more enthusiasm as – based on their responses- the frequency at which they go to the theatre is quite high.

As far as museums are concerned, both boys and girls admitted to only visiting museums on rare occasions and only during school outings. The results also coincided when students were asked about how often they go to the cinema to which question both groups replied that it is one of their favourite pastime and, thus, engage in the activity whenever they have the opportunity to do so.

With connection to staying at home, a significant number responded positively with the majority of the boys preferring to log on the Internet and  Facebook in contrast to girls who choose to watch TV when in the leisure of their home. Finally, both boys and girls frequently attend concerts with boys showing the greatest enthusiasm.

The second part of the survey required students to respond to questions about their free time, their favourite type of music and films and Internet. Concerning their free time activities boys showed a tendency towards playing videogames whereas girls preferred to chat on the Net while both boys and girls said they enjoy going out with their friends.

As to which type of music they prefer, boys expressed a preference for rap  and rock with girls choosing pop and with relation to films, boys said they enjoy adventures and horror while girls prefer romantic comedies. Concerning the Internet, both groups of students were willing to admit that although they like going out with their, on many occasions they become so engrossed in Facebook that they forget to turn it off.

All in all, the results of the survey go to show that teenagers are not utter strangers to culture but they show their preference for activities which are considered to be more entertaining, like the cinema and concerts and, of course, the Internet.
